Preparation and characterization of porous carbon monoliths from a sustainable polyphenolic compound for supercapacitors |

In this study, porous carbon monoliths (PCMs) were synthesized from tannic acid as a sustainable carbon precursor and various amount of sodium citrate as an activation agent via ice-templating followed by carbonization. The physico-chemical and electrochemical characterization of the prepared PCMs demonstrated that pore properties and electrochemical performance were strongly depended on the amount of sodium citrate. The specific surface area of the PCMs increased up to 1326 m2/g with an increasing amount of sodium citrate. The PCMs prepared with the highest amount of sodium citrate exhibited the best electrochemical performance, such as a high specific capacitance of 278 F/g at 1 A g–1 in a 6.0 M KOH aqueous electrolyte. |
