The Properties of Polymer Particles prepared by Emulsion-aggregation Process |

The preparation skills of nano-size polymer particles can lead the way to interesting structures in applications for imaging and electronic materials. In this study, the emulsion copolymerization of styrene, butyl acrylate (BA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) was performed in the presence of a macromonomer, poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether mathacrylate (PEG-EEM). PEG-EEM was used as a stabilizer and a comonomer during polymerization, instead of surfactants. The effects of pH, concentrations of electrolytes, and shear force, reaction temperature on the properties of nano-size particles were studied. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) was controlled and measured. The particle sizes and the particle size distributions were examined by using particle size analyzer (PSA). |
