PET(polyethylene terephthalate) is a versatile plastic and is widely used in the manufacture of products such as food packaging material and soft-drink bottle etc. As the consumption of PET increases, waste PET(wPET) is rapidly emerging as a major constituent of urban waste. In this study, we depolymerized wPET by glycolysis, one of the chemical recycling of wPET and synthesized waterborne polyurethane(WBPU) using glycolyzed products obtained through the depolymerization of wPET. In addition, WBPUs were synthesized in various ratios of polyol and chain extender at fixed content of isocyanate and hydrophilic agent to determine the effect of polyols and chain extender. The structure of WBPU was characterized by FTIR and 1H-NMR. And, we investigated the thermal properties of the WBPU by DSC(differential scanning calorimetry).
