Effect of Hydrogen Bonding on the Crystallization of Copolymer Blends |
초록 |
We studied the nonisothermal crystallization of binary copolymer blends composed of polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) (PS-PEO) and a polyacrylic acid-based copolymer, including polystyrene-block-polyacrylic acid (PS-b-PAA) and polystyrene-graft-polyacrylic acid (PS-g-PAA). In PS-PEO/PS-b-PAA blends, nearly all the PAA molecules formed hydrogen bonding with PEO, which facilitated the localization of PS-b-PAA at the interface of the PS-PEO microdomains. As a result, the crystal thickness, crystallite size, and crystallization rate of PEO increased with the addition of PS-b-PAA. In PS-PEO/PS-g-PAA blends, hydrogen bonding strength between PEO and PAA decreased considerably, and PS-g-PAA preferred to disperse in the PEO domain because of the steric hindrance of PS-g-PAA. This expanded the PEO domain and induced a phase transition to a cylindrical structure. Two crystallization temperatures were obtained, which was a result of PEO crystallization in lamellar and cylindrical domains. |
