Zeolite LTA is used in the dehydration process due to its high hydrophilicity and appropriate pore size. We investigated the phenomenon that occurred during contact of the LTA zeolite membrane with water. When the zeolite LTA membrane contacted with water, impurity layer on the surface of the membrane was removed. After the water contact time of about 100-200 hours, the structure of the zeolite LTA was mostly damaged and the dehydration performance of membrane was also sharply decreased. The optimal contact time with water for high H2O flux and separation factor was ~12 h. Fluorescence confocal optical microscopy (FCOM) analysis was used to confirm the process of the degradation of the zeolite LTA membrane. In addition, in order to obtain a zeolite LTA membrane with high dehydration performance, it is important to have an appropriate number of dip-coating and waiting time of seed suspension in the synthesis process. |
