제목 Preparation of porous carbon foam from phenolic resin
초록 Porous carbon foam materials have received much attention recently because of their high porosity, tunable thermal conductivity and high thermal tolerance. The applications of carbon foams include thermal management, wastewater treatment, filters, and catalyst support owing to their features mentioned. Carbon foams with high surface area have been prepared in this research from phenolic resin-based foam using carbonization process and steam activation method. The phenolic resin was synthesized with an initial formaldehyde to phenol mole ratio of 1.7~2.0 under alkaline condition. The phenolic foams with high porosity were prepared by polymerization of phenolic resin, blowing agent, surfactant as a stabilizer and organic acid as a catalyst. Finally, activated carbon foams were prepared by carbonizing under nitrogen at 500~800oC and steam activation process was followed. The influence of process variables, such as carbonization time, carbonization temperature, activation condition on the adsorption capacities of the activated carbon foam was studied.
