제목 | Photonic Communications between Asymmetric Pairs of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Drops |
초록 | Cholesteric Liquid crystals (CLCs) are one of the liquid crystal phases that exhibit peculiar optical properties generated from their helical superstructure. By adding chiral dopant in an achiral LC host, LC molecules are self-assembled to have a spiral twisting arrangement. Due to their periodic alternation of the refractive index, CLCs possess a photonic bandgap property. CLCs can show structural colors through Bragg’s reflection. In particular, the optical pattern called photonic cross-communication is developed when CLCs are trapped in spherical confinement. The pattern is generated by the retro-reflection of the light among neighboring CLC drops. In this research, cross-communications taking place in symmetric and asymmetric CLC drops are investigated. The mechanism of optical patterns is demonstrated. Pairs of CLC drops show non-cloneable optical patterns, making this system promising for application in anticounterfeit. |
