Various single use plastics used exceeded the world. Eventually, various untreated plastics flow into the sea along the river, become 2nd microplastics(MPs) and finally become contaminated with various aquatic organisms. It will come up to the table. Furthermost the soil was contaminated for a long time due to agricultural seeds and fertilizers that were used by making micro-encapsulated MPs, and as a result, root plants and fruits. The discovery of MPs in the size of microns shows that the world is contaminated with MPs in a very wide range. There is a need to better understand MPs presence in the environment, how they degrade and move through the environment (water etc), and what the impacts on humans. Since 2018, KIAST which has been leading the MPs testing & standard institute for the first time in Korea. Currently, various ISO/TCs are very active to propose new standard. Through this presentation, I’d like to introduce various ISO & IEC MPs standardization. |
