In this study, column diameter (D), height/diameter (H/D) ratio, and fuel gas flow rate were investigated to evaluate the effect on microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis cultivation. Photobioreactors with various D and H/D ratio were tested and the assessments of hydrodynamic properties and biomass production were fllowed. Then, H. pluvialis was cultured under autotrophic conditions using industrial flue gas in outdoor. Via optimizing the reactor module to minimize biomass loss, photobioreactor volume increased to 354%. Biomass and astaxanthin productivity were 0.52 g/L/day, 1.48 mg/L/day in the developed bioreactor module and 0.053 g/L/day, 1.47 mg/L/day in the control. Therefore, biomass productivity was maintained with increased bioreactor scale, and this result indicates that the developed bioreactor is suitable for the scale up of overall microalgae cultivation. |
