We report epitaxy behavior of various inorganics including Ni, Cu, Au, Pt, Fe, GaN on the surface of graphite flake and large area graphene synthesized by chemical vapor deposition. Target metals were thermally evaporated on the graphitic surface and then additionally thermal annealed to induce the crystallization of deposited metal films. Our observation using electron back scattered diffraction and transmittance electron microscopy reveals that deposited metals are crystallized with the preferred crystalline direction to relax the stress from the lattice misfit between graphitic surface and metals. And it seems that the shape and size of metal domains are influenced by the those of underlying graphitic materials. And by using the epitaxy of Ni, high quality graphene could be synthesized via chemical vapor deposition and graphene films are recyclable after etching the catalyst. |
