Dunaliella tertiolecta, due to its fast growth rate and production of large lipid contents, is considered as an important biofuel producing specie. In the current study, nitrogen, salt and CO2 variations along with light and dark conditions were used for the enhancement of lipids and carbohydrates. Low salinity favors carbohydrate production. Lipid and carbohydrate contents were increased at low nitrogen concentration. The presence of CO2 also enhanced carbohydrate and lipid contents. In the absence of light, either higher carbohydrate or lipid content or both were produced. Lipids were enhanced in the presence of light, low salinity and nitrogen starving condition while both starvation of nitrogen and salt enhanced carbohydrate. Carbohydrate enhancement occurred in the presence of light, low nitrogen and at low level of salt or its absence in the medium. In the absence of light and salt, and at low nitrogen level carbohydrate contents were increased. |
