Anion exchange membranes (AEM) have been considered as one of the promising electrolytes for anion exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC). To realize high-performance for AEMFC, anion exchange membrane (AEM) required that excellent stability and high ion conductivity. Herein, the synthesis of anion exchange membranes based on a poly(p-phenylene) backbone prepared by a Ni(0)-catalyzed coupling reaction is demonstrated. A series of multi-block poly(p-phenylene)s have benzylic methyl groups that are converted to bromomethyl groups by a radical reaction. Cationic polymers result from conversion of the bromomethyl groups to ionic moieties by quaternization, successively. In particular, we measured physical properties, mechanical stability, and also tested alkaline stability of poly(p-phenylene) based ionomer by soaking in 1M KOH solution under 80 ℃. |
