In vivo biocompatibility comparison of different topographic PLLA nanofiber and salt leaching PLLA scaffold |

Modern trend in regenerative medicine is increasingly using three-dimensional structured polymeric scaffolds because they represent a wide range of morphological and geometric in vivo possibilities. This study investigated the in vivo biodegradation, biocompatibility of PLLA nanofiber and PLLA scaffold with different topographic structures. PLLA nanofiber was fabricated using electrospinning and PLLA scaffold was obtained by salt leaching, followed by characterization of SEM and porosimeter. Cellular viability was assayed by using rat muscle derived stem cells. In vivo degradation of PLLA nanofiber and scaffold were measured by 1H NMR and GPC. It resulted PLLA nanofiber had less toxicity than PLLA scaffold. The degradation of PLLA nanofiber was more extensive than PLLA scaffold. The inflammatory cell accumulation in PLLA nanofiber was lower than that in PLLA scaffold. In conclusion, electrospun PLLA nanofiber is more biodegradable, biocompatible than salt leaching PLLA scaffold in vivo. |
