We investigated the corrosion inhibition properties of two n-amino acids, i.e. 2-aminoacetic acid (glycine, Gly) and 5-aminopentanoic acid (5-APA). The former had two carbon atoms, but the latter had five carbon atoms; thus, the latter was around twice as long as the former. Secondly, we also employed iminodiacetic acid (IDA) that had one amino and two carboxylic acid groups; its chain length was similar to that of 5-aminopentanoic acid, but the amine group was placed in the middle of the molecule. Lastly, to prepare the compounds that have more amine and carboxylic acid groups than n-amino acids, two 1,3,5-triazine derivatives substituted with Gly and IDA were synthesized and their corrosion inhibition properties were studied. |
