제목 Sampling and analysis for microbial bioaerosols in indoor environments: technologies and challenges
초록 Exposures to diverse microbes are important in the development of infants’ immune systems and have been associated with preventing asthma in young children. However, exposures to increased bioaerosols under high moisture conditions in indoor environments have been associated with adverse health effects. To study associations of exposures to microbial bioaerosols with health effects, accurate exposure assessment is essential. Available bioaerosol sampling and analysis for exposure assessment includes culturing microbes, culturomics using multiple culture conditions combined with mass spectrometry (MS) and DNA sequencing for identification, and culture-independent methods. Culture-independent methods can involve filters, impingers, microscopy, chromatography, MS, or DNA or RNA sequencing. In this presentation, traditional and new technologies in sampling and analysis of microbial bioaerosols are discussed, including their strengths and limitations.
