Preparation of Pt deposited-hollow structured TiO2 with different size for self-humidifying dual catalyst electrode in PEMFC |

The hollow structured TiO2 (HTiO2) has a high specific surface area as compared with normal TiO2 spheres because it is composed of an empty space and a small pore structure. The HTiO2 was synthesized using the different sizes of SiO2 as a template and Pt nanoparticles were successfully deposited on HTiO2. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the crystalline phase of HTiO2, and the specific surface area and pore size distribution was evaluated by Brunauer-Emmet-Teller method (BET) measurement. Water management is an important factor in PEMFC. The Pt-HTiO2 electrode was applied to increase the back-diffusion ability of the water generated from the cathode to the anode, thereby preventing the anode from drying. Moreover, Pt-HTiO2 plays a role in the generation of water through the chemical reaction using oxygen and hydrogen crossing the membrane. The MEA was fabricated by applying as a dual electrode and tested under various relative humidity. |
