Electrochromic Devices (ECDs) have been applied for numerous applications such as smart windows, anti-glare mirrors, and information displays. Ion gels, made up of PVDF-copolymers and ionic liquid feature attractive properties for ECDs, with non-volatility, flexibility, solution processability. These ion gels exhibit a good compatibility with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs, which prove suitable as EC materials, are colorless in a neutral state, but they show colorful molecular plasmon resonances in reduced and oxidized states. Herein, we have presented the preparation of ion gel compositions based on PVDF copolymers and examined their effect on the EC performances of PAHs in a single-layered device. The EC gel consists of PVDF-copolymer, ionic liquid, and PAH as an active EC material. These ECDs show a reversible color change in the visible range. EC properties of ECDs were thoroughly investigated, in terms of coloration efficiency, color range, and device stability. |
