Preparation of mimicking natural extracellular matrix electrospun sheet using small intestinal submucosa (SIS) |

The uses of electrospun micro/nanofiber sheet have been raising scientific influences because of its potential to mimic natural extracellular matrix (ECM). In this study, small intestinal submucosa (SIS) blended poly(caprolactone-co-lactide(PCLA) nanofiber sheets was successfully electrospun in various conditions and polymer concentrations. Therefore, it opens the ability to control production of nanofiber sheets with physical and biological properties that similar to those of natural ECM. Characterization of fiber morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and biodegradation test suggested the significant impact of SIS concentration on fiber size and biodegradation rate of the SIS nanofiber sheet. MTT assay showed that the SIS electrospun sheet was highly biocompatible. We confirmed that the drug loaded in SIS/PCLA nanofiber sheet released sustainably. In further study, we hypothesize that SIS/PCLA electrospun sheet is an ideal candidate for drug delivery system. |
