Humidity sensor has been extensively investigated for the last decades toward diverse fields of medical science and electronic applications. In the class of humidity-sensitive materials, polymeric materials have particular advantages of flexibility, easy fabrication, and low cost. In present study, we developed fast responsive, colorimetric and resistive-type polymeric humidity sensor with a series of sulfonated block copolymers with tailored hygroscopic properties. Under the levels of humidity, the block copolymer humidity sensor self-displayed discernible reflective color changes, covering almost entire visible light regions from violet (RH = 20%) to red (RH = 95%). The sensors also revealed a few orders of magnitude changes in resistance with exposure to humid air. The time to complete the changes in signals, i.e., color and resistance, was less than 1 minute regardless of the RH gradients, as rationalized by short water diffusion pathways in nanostructured block copolymers. |
