Recently,due to the unprecedented COVID-19, the use of single-use plastics increasedexponentially to protect humans against viruses. The environmental pollutioncaused by disposable plastics had become severe, and paper-based products haveemerged as substitutes of these plastics. However, owing to theperformance of paper is inferior itself, it is essential to strengthen theperformance via surface coating or chemical surface treatment. Furthermore,to improve the hydrophobicity which is one of the vulnerable points of paper isnecessary. In this study, we introduce eco-friendly coating which can supplementthese weaknesses of the paper. The chitosan nanowhiskers (CSW)-coated paper has biodegradability as well as the mechanical performanceand water-resistance which is similar to commercial products. In addition, thecoating procedure is eco-friendly because of organic solvent-free process based on theCSW aqueous solution. |
