In the current study, we report a simple and easily scalable electrochemical anodization technique for the manufacture of superhydrophilic TiO2 films with reversible wettability properties. Electrochemically anodized Titanium (Ti) foil exhibits nanoscale topographic properties such as interconnected nanowebs and nanofibers that enhance both surface roughness and light absorption. After 5 minutes of UV illumination, a water contact angle (WCA) of 4.8° is measured for 5 μL deionized water droplets, and after 5 minutes of white light illumination, the WCA is 3.2°. Moreover, under UV illumination, superhydrophilic Ti foil exhibits self-cleaning properties. The main factors contributing to the superhydrophilic properties include surface topology and surface chemistry.
