Creating hollow structures is one strategy for tuning the optical properties of materials. The purpose of this study is to enhance the anti-reflective properties of silica (SiO2) nanoparticles. For this purpose, hexagonal, spherical and rod-shaped hollow silica nanoparticles were synthesized to investigate morphological effects on anti-reflective film. The size and shell thickness of the hollow silica nanoparticles could be controlled by changing the concentration of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). Anti-reflective efficacies were observed for the three types of hollow silica nanoparticles with a minimum reflectance of about 5 % at 520 nm, compared to 8.4 % for a bare glass substrate, when using single-layer anti-reflection coatings of spherical hollow silica nanoparticles. |
