Mechanical Strength Behaviors of Expanded Graphite/Epoxy/Polyimide Compound |

The effects of expanded graphite (EG) on the mechanical strength of the DGEBA/PI blend were investigated with EG weight ratio from 0.1 to 1.0 wt.%. Thermal properties such as IDT, IPDT, thermal decomposition activation energy, and thermal stability factor of each sample were evaluated by a TGA. Curing behaviors of the compound were measured by a DSC. Impact and flexural strength were measured using an Izod impact tester and a UTM over five times each according to ASTM D 256 and ASTM D 790M, respectively. As a result, the mechanical strength of the EG/DGEBA/PI compounds increased due to the enhancement of the binding force between the hydroxyl and carboxyl groups of the EG and the epoxy matrix. |
