In this work, biodegradable films were to prepared by using inulin(INL), polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) and additives i.e. glycerol(GL), citric acid(CA), ascorbic acid(AsA), and thiamine(B1). INL from jerusalem artichoke flour was extracted by the method of hot water extraction. Cross-linked INL/PVA blended films were synthesized using UV curing process. Films were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and fourier transform infrared(FT-IR). In addition, tensile strength(TS), elongation at break(%E), swelling behavior(SB), solubility(S), and water vapor absorption of prepared biodegradable films were investigated. From the results, it could be verified that The physical and water barrier properties of the B1-added film were also found to be superior to those of other films with additives. In addition, applicability of the coating on a fruit and biodegradability in soil were evaluated. The biodegradability in soil revealed that films are degraded by about 10-50% after 90 days. |
