Poly(styrene/thiophene) (poly(St/Th)) nanoparticles were prepared by Fe3+-catalyzed oxidative polymerization and emulsion polymerization. The size of poly(St/Th) nanoparticles has been controlled by various concentration of monomers and stabilizer, i.e., styrene, thiophene ,and poly(sodium 4-styrene-sulfonate) (PSS). The PSS acts as a polymeric stabilizer and film forming matrix in this study. As the amount of monomer increased, the final particle size of poly(St/Th) nanoparticles also increased. However, the final particle size of poly(St/Th) nanoparticles decreased with increase of PSS concentration. This size reduction induced the enhancement of photoluminescent property and quantum yield, which was calculated from photoluminescence spectra, due to the increase of surface area. Resulting particles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). |
