Monolayer formation of photocatalyst TiO2 nanoparticles for industrial applications |

Current rapid increase in urbanization and industrialization, development of effective management and processing methods for environmental pollutants is urgent. Photocatalytic technology has been widely used for the treatment of toxic organic pollutants. Photocatalysts, i.e. titanium oxide (TIO2), can oxidize organic compounds into environment-friendly products using natural light source. In this study, we investigated a method to immobilize TIO2 nanoparticles on silica glass using an organic linker in order to improve reusability and to decrease undesired pollution by the release of photocatalysts into environment. The immobilization efficiency was examined via SEM, EDX, surface hydrophilicity measurement. Our result demonstrated that the TIO2 nanoparticles were homogeneously immobilized and did not form agglomerates. The immobilized layer was transparent so that this method can be used in various industrial fields. |
