We newly synthesized two different dumbbell-shaped diacetylene monomers. Based on the microscopic results combined with thermal and scattering ones, it was realized that there is relationship between chemical structure, molecular packing structure, polymerization and gelation property. Having specific molecular packing structure, diacetylene monomers can be polymerized and exhibited specific properties. The chemical structure and structure construction are important factors to understand the properties of diacetylene monomers such as the effective topochemical polymerization and gelation.
