Electrochemical ion-insertion in doped tungsten oxide nanocrystals induces near-infrared modulation from localized surface plasmon resonance, promising for next-generation electrochromic window applications. However, underlying mechanism of how ion-insertion into crystal lattice affects electrochromic modulation is unknown. In this talk, two approaches of improving overall optical modulation by understanding crystalline nature will be presented. First, different optically active site can be effectively utilized to increase coloration efficiency using different size of electrolyte cations. Lastly I will discuss the existence of both crystalline and shape anisotropy in doped tungsten oxide nanocrystals influences the electrochromic modulation, i.e. both coloration efficiency and charge capacity. |
