Epon828/Amine-Functionalized Short-Length Vapor Grown Carbon Nanofiber (AF-CNF) Nanocomposites |

In this study, short-length vapor grown carbon nanofiber (VGCNF) was functionalized with 4-aminobenzoic acid in polyphosphoric acid to afford aminobenzoyl-functionalized VGCNF (AF-CNF). It was mixed with EPON 828 by simple mechanical stirring in methanol that was added to help efficient mixing. After evaporation of methanol at low temperature, the resultant nanocomposites displayed the uniform dispersion of AF-VGCNF into EPON828. Furthermore, during curing process, amine functionalities played as co-curing agents for the EPON 828. As a result, AF-CNF as a functional additive could resolve both issues dispersion by functionalization and interfacial adhesion by covalent bonding. Samples were studied the influence of different ratio of AF-CNF on the mechanical properties of EPON 828 matrix composites. |
