제목 Photocatalytic Degradation Promoted by α-β Phase Junction of Electrospun Bi2O3 nanofibers
초록    Recently, a photocatalytic degradation process, ‘using solar energy to activate oxygen which can degrade organic pollutants into carbon dioxide, water and other inorganics’, have attracted a great attention. This process has many advantages which are economic and environmental efficiency compared with traditional removal process of organic pollutants. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), one of the most extensively studied semiconductors, was regarded as an outstanding candidate and usually used as a reference material for photocatalytic evaluation owing to its unique photochemical features. However, with TiO2, wide band gap have been limited uses as a photocatalyst under visible light.
Bismuth oxide is considered as one of the important visible-light-driven photocatalyst because of the direct band gap of 2.85 eV for α-Bi2O3 and 2.58 eV for β-Bi2O3. Some reports have demonstrated the synthesis and photocatalytic applications of one-dimensional (1D) Bi2O3 nanostructures which have a relatively large surface to volume ratio and high carrier mobile ability compared with its bulk and nanoparticle forms. However, most of them have been focused on 1D nanostructures with a single α- or β-Bi2O3 phase, thus their photocatalytic activities are not competent due to a high recombination rate. Proper junctions formed in semiconductor-based photocatalysts could lead to enhanced activity by an improvement of charge separation and an increase in the lifetime of the charge carrier.
In this work, we report the phase-controlled synthesis and photocatalytic properties of Bi2O3 nanofibers with α-β heterojunction. The nanofibers are synthesized using an electrospinning and subsequent calcination process and the change of the phases, morphologies, optical properties and photocatalytic abilities are systematically investigated as a function of calcination temperature.
