Unidirectionally Macrochanneled Alumina Ceramics with Controlled Porous Walls using Ceramic/Camphene-based Co-extrusion |
초록 |
In the design of biomaterial scaffolds, design parameters including pore size, shape and interconnectivity, mechanical properties should be optimized to maximize successful inducement of bone ingrowth. A wide variety of commercially available systems for rapid prototyping (RP) enables the user to fabricate prototypes with almost any shape and a large range of different sizes. However, conventional fabrication techniques are not sufficiently suitable to control scaffold structure to modulate mechanical properties. In this study, we herein propose a novel way of producing macro-channeled alumina ceramics using direct RP technique by Co-extruding frozen alumina/camphene body. This hybrid method overcomes the indirect casting limitation of ceramics for 3D structure by manufacturing macro-channeled ceramics with porous wall using direct RP method. To accomplish this goal, an alumina/camphene slurry with an alumina content of 15,20 and 25 vol% was frozen at 3oC in a mold with diameter of 20 mm and then extruded through a reduction die with diameter of 1 mm. Macro-channeled ceramics are constructed directly using RP machine simultaneously. The pore structure of the sample produced was closely examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and compressive strength tests were carried out. |
