The influence of calcination temperature on the phase transformation of ZnO/TiO2 systems synthesized via two sol-gel synthesis techniques is reported in this research. The first system AZnO/TiO2 was synthesized by addition ZnO nanopowder to a titanium dioxide solwhile the second system BZnO/TiO2 was synthesized by mixing a zinc oxide sol to a titanium dioxide sol. The as-synthesized titanates were first calcined at 500℃ and afterwards calcined at 900℃. The XRD analysis results showed that only Zn2TiO4 existed in AZnO/TiO2 while Zn2TiO4 and zincite co-existed in BZnO/TiO2 after calcination at 500℃. However, after calcination at 900℃, the Rietveld refinement results revealed that AZnO/TiO2 consisted of 57.8wt% Zn2TiO4 and 31.4wt% Zn2Ti3O8. On the other hand, BZnO/TiO2 consisted of 71.1wt% Zn2TiO4 and 20.2wt% Zn2Ti3O8. In addition, both systems consisted of minor amounts of ZnTiO3 and rutile. To further study the properties of the synthesized samples, TG-DTA, and SEM characterization techniques were also employed. TEM with SAED patterns of the samples are also reported. |
