Evaluation of mechanical and interfacial properties between glass fiber and epoxy composites with NaCl solution aging treatments |

Although it is important to have high strength of each fiber and matrix, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between fiber and matrix is also even more important. If NaCl water penetrates the interface, the contacting area will be weak. In this study, the change of properties by mechanical, interfacial and micromechanical tests was observed after NaCl solution aging treatment. The changes in mechanical properties of glass fiber were investigated using single-fiber tensile test. Interfacial property between glass fiber and epoxy resin was evaluated using acoustic emission (AE) and micromechanical test under fatigue test. Through the change in fatigue properties, comparative interfacial properties were evaluated. In summary, glass fiber diameter decreased and the reduction of mechanical and interfacial was observed with NaCl solution aging treatment.
