Aliphatic polyesters have been interested as a very important class of biodegradable polymers due to their favorable features of biodegradability and biocompatibility. On the basis of these premises, we modified their backbone structure by replacing in their main chain different amounts of 1,4-bis[(carboxylethoxy)methyl] cyclohexane having a very flexible ether group and conformational rigidity, instead of succinic acid. In this present study, we describe the synthesis and characterization of aliphatic copolyesters obtained by polycondensation in the bulk from the newly designed diacid and succinic acid and 1,4-butandiol in the presence of a highly effective catalyst tetra-n-butyl-titanate Ti(OBu)4. |
