The Trial of Using Quaternized Poly(1-vinyl imidazole) Copolymer as Anion Transport Membrane Material for All-Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries |

Nowadays, cation exchange membranes(CEM) such as Nafion are mainly used in all-vanadium redox flow batteries because of their high ion conductivity and chemical stability. However CEM have a critical disadvantage to pass vanadium ions, which causes decline of battery capacity. To improve of vanadium ion passage, quaternized and crosslinked poly(1-vinyl imidazole) (QPVI) copolymer was tested in using as an anion trsnsport material with variation of crosslinking agent and its amount. The copolymer was synthesized into a direct film form between glass plates. The obtained film was transformed into microporous film followed by quaternization and exchanging into the hydroxide anion. The structure was confirmed with FT-IR and NMR. The ionic conductivity of hydroxide anion was analysed in correlation to the morphology and the polarity of medium. |
