Polymerization of antimicrobial superabsorbent polymer coated with cardanol-based resin |
초록 |
Superabsorbent polymer (SAP), which is widely used in the sanitary area such as sanitary pads or diapers, was coated with novolac resins for antimicrobial property. Cardanol is well known as antibacterial and innocuous substance, which could be obtained from cashew nut shell liquid. Cardanol and phenolic compounds having similar structure with cardanol were reacted with paraformaldehyde in acidic condition to make novolac resins. SAP was coated with four novolac resins, and the coated SAPs were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy. SAPs coated with novolacs showed similar water uptake behavior compared to commercial SAP and good antibacterial property. Coating with novolac resins, antimicrobial SAPs were successfully synthesized. |
