Since using fossil fuels, humanity has faced various problems such as resource imbalances, environmental pollutions and climate change. Strategies for sustainable development have been proposed to solve these problems, and one of the alternatives is the use of bioresources. Based on biomass conversion technology, we can produce not only biofuels but also various bio-based products such as bio-chemicals, cosmetics, food and pharmaceuticals. Biomass, a raw material for biorefineries, has a comprehensive meaning that includes food resources. However, it is a recent trend to design bioconversion processes based on non-edible biomass which is classified into 2nd to 4th generations depending on its composition and origin. In this study, the origin and composition of various non-edible biomass were investigated. The overall process, the conversion from 4th generation biomass into biochemical, was designed and various methods were applied to improve efficiency. |
