Biosorption is a well-known alternative technique for the removal and/or recovery of pollutants, such as dyes, heavy metals and precious metals (PMs), from aqueous media. In especial, the biosorptive recovery of PMs from wastes or secondary resources is a hot issue due to their high price and increasing demand. In this study, fermentation wastes were introduced and developed as powerful biosorbents via several surface modification methods. The sorption performance of developed biosorbents was demonstrated through various sorption experiments. In addition, this work discussed and suggested the required specifications of biosorbents for the recovery of PMs and strategies to give the required properties to the biosorbents. |
