High color contrast bistable electrochromic window |

A high color contrast bistable electrochromic window (BECW) was explored by controlling the interfacial charge transport in a two-electrode electrochemcial device. In an electrochromic mirror device, control of ion diffusion was important to keep a long reflectance under OC. The ion diffusion could be controlled by introducing an electrical double layers (EDL) of ionic liquids, to show large reflectance change along with a long bistablility. In an EC window with a conjugated polymer (CP) film, the HOMO level of the EC film was important to control interfacial electron transport (IET). The self-coloration of a bleached EC film was ascribed to the interfacial dopant ion transport (IDT), which could be blocked by introducing an EDL. Combination of the low HOMO level EC films and EDL provided a low energy consumption BECW. |
