Calcium carbonate (CaCo3) is one of the inorganic filler and useful in various industrial fields: rubber, plastics, paint paper, inks and foods. However, the application of calcium carbonates is prohibited in acid condition because calcium carbonates are decomposed by acid. In order to improve the acid resistance and physical properties of calcium carbonates, silica layer is applied to the surface of calcium carbonates. Calcium carbonate/silica particles were obtained by sol-gel process form precursor of sodium silicate adjusting CaCo3/silica ratio and pH controlling method. The calcium carbonate/silica particles were analyzed by ATR-IR, TGA, and TEM. The result of analysis is explanatory of core-shell structure and the chemical bonds of Ca-O-Si in calcium carbonate/silica particles. The surface modification of calcium carbonate improves the acid resistance properties through analysis of acid resistance property (ARP) and should be a way to widely extend their application. |
