Calcium phosphate materials have been widely used as a bone cement to fill bone defects, Tetracalcium phospate (TTCP) having higher Ca/P ratio than Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the most common raw materials as a starting material of calcium phosphate bone cement (CPC). However, the hardened TTCP-cement has a critical drawback such as poor mechanical properties and slow setting time. In this study, a calcium silicate material, which is a main component of Portland cement, was added into CPC to enhance the inferior properties of CPC. The cement properties of TTCP-cement with the addition of C3S were examined in terms of the content of C3S and hardener. The CPC (10wt% C3S) showed the highest compressive strength (20.11 Mpa) with hardener (Na2HPO4). The addition of hardener was significantly enhanced the setting time. At certain concentration of Hardener, the fastest setting time was observed. The addition of C3S delayed the setting time when mixed with water. |
