제목 | Tailored Design of Catalyst Materials for Air-Breathing Batteries |
초록 | Air-breathing batteries such as Li-O2 and Li-CO2 have been intensively studied for breakthrough in energy storages due to their remarkable energy density potential. The intrinsic challenges arising from insulating product formation have been mitigated by developing various types of efficient catalysts. Although efforts have been input to seek suitable catalyst alternatives including solid-phase and soluble-phase, we should further understand O2 or CO2 electrochemistry facilitated by the catalysts on the electrode or in the electrolyte. In addition, material origins of catalysts should satisfy environmental-friendly sources and economical standard. In this presentation, I would introduce several ways to utilize a bio-friendly materials as catalyst precursor and catalyst itself for efficient and sustainable air-breathing cells (Li-O2 and Li-CO2 batteries). We examine the morphological and structural features of the nature-extracted catalyst materials. We achieve the improved electrochemical performance of air-breathing cells employing tailored catalysts, compared to the reference cell without the catalyst. Our approach to using bio-inspired materials as a catalytic component for the air-breathing battery system offers several advantages: (i) economic catalytic materials that use existing natural materials, (ii) environmentally friendly methods for both bio-waste recycling and greenhouse gas reduction, and (iii) manageable CO2 capture and storage by introducing electrochemical battery applications. |
