Crystallinity Improvement of Cokes through Catalytic Graphitization |

In this study, to investigate the effect of a metal catalyst on the crystallinity improvement of coke, the catalyst was plated on the coke and then carbonized to induce the catalytic graphitization. The metal catalyst was introduced into the pretreated coke using an electroless plating method at a temperature of 60°C or higher. The plated coke was carbonized by heat treatment at 1000 ~ 1600℃ for one hour in an argon atmosphere. The surface properties of cokes in each step were observed by an SEM/EDS. The amount of metal plated on the coke was measured via an ICP. The crystallinity of the heat-treated cokes was evaluated by an XRD analysis. From the experimental results, the crystallinity of the carbonized cokes was significantly improved as the number of metal catalysts increased. |
