In this study, electroless plating on cokes was performed to investigate the effect of Nickel (Ni) -Cobalt (Co) alloy catalysts on catalytic graphitization. Ni-Co alloy catalyst was introduced to the cokes surface by performing electroless Ni-Co-P plating in proportion. The plated cokes was heat-treated for 1 hour at 1,600 ℃ and 1,800 ℃ in Ar atmosphere. SEM and EDS analyzes were conducted to confirm the plating thickness and type of the coated cokes. Crystallinity, graphitization and thermal conductivity of the heat-treated cokes were evaluated by polarization microscopy, XRD, Raman and hot disk methods, respectively. Graphitization of cokes coated with Ni-Co alloy was found to proceed at a relatively lower temperature than the pristine cokes. It is expected that the graphitization is facilitated by the elution-precipitation mechanism. |
