Application of Amino-Based Chitosan Cyclodextrin Derivatives for Extraction of Catechins in Green Tea with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography |

Four types of amine based chitosan derivatives were prepared and further modified with beta-cyclodextrin. The capability of the four amine modified chitosan beta-cyclodextrin for extracting (+)-catechin and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate from green tea was examined. The different amines were found to strengthen the extraction capacity of chitosan. Amine grafted chitosan beta-cyclodextrin materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Among the four types of amines, ethylene diamine grafted chitosan beta-cyclodextrin showed the highest extraction capacity to catechins. Therefore, ethylene diamine grafted chitosan beta-cyclodextrin was used in the extracting assay, and the standard curves of (+)-catechin and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate were linear over the concentration range of 1–500 μg/mL. |
