Nano-size cellulose fiber and whisker have a great interest as new excellent insulating materials because of their remarkable mechanical properties and lightness than those of natural fiber, glass fiber and carbon fiber. Three different treatments for nano-size cellulose were comparatively performed. Mechanically prepared the cellulose powder was treated with peroxide alkaline (PA), peroxide alkaline-hydrochloric acid (PA-HCl), and enzyme. These approaches to prepare for nano-size cellulose resulted in decrease of weight and average diameters of cellulose fibers. Because cellulose fiber was little damaged by enzyme, enzymatic treatment appeared less weight reduction than the other treatments. Cellulose fiber was decomposed more evenly by enzymatic treatment than PA-HCl treatment. Morphological analysis of cellulose fiber was performed by SEM and weight reduction measurement was performed.
