Our groups reported recently that when KF was dissolved into polymer, potassium cations played a role as CO2 carrier for facilitated transport. The CO2 molecules to have the relatively large quadrupole moment could be strongly interacted with potassium cations, resulting in facilitated CO2 transport. For the enhanced separation performance for CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 mixtures, CsF as a new CO2 carrier was suggested in this study. Since the atomic size of Cs is larger than that of K, it was expected that Cs cations can be easily dissociated as free ions into polymer, resulting in the favorable interactions with CO2 molecules. The separation performance for electrolyte membranes consisting of polymer and CsF was investigated. |
