Metallic vascular stents are now widely applied to arteriosclerosis after the PTCA treatment, but acute thrombosis and restenosis are still problems to be improved. In our previous studies, PEG derivative or heparin grafted metallic stents improved blood compatibility due to a synergistic effect of the non-adhesive, mobile PEG chain and anticoagulant active heparin or sulfonate groups. In this study, to enhance the concentration of PEG derivative or heparin amino-silanes grafted on the metallic surfaces were further amplified chemically via an aziridine coupling. The modified metallic surfaces were characterized by static water contact angle measurements, SEM, and AFM respectively. For evaluation of blood compatibility, platelet adhesion and protein adsorption tests were conducted.
