Gas hydrates formation, one of methods for desalination of seawater have been studied for the past 50 years, are ice-like crystalline molecular complexes formed when water mix with suitably sized “guest” gas molecules reported a salt removal efficiency more than 90%. Apparently, brackish water obtained through hydrates formation method is only separated from salt but the gas used as refrigerant, HFC-134a gas in the process is still attached to the water. HFC-134a gas which allows a much more high efficiency of 100% cannot be left in the treated water for its potential harm. It was verified that more than 99 mol% HFC-134a could be obtained from gas mixtures after hydrate formation and subsequent dissociation processes. Jet loop reactor has intrinsic high turbulence result in very large air-liquid surface area for greater mass transfer. Therefore, in this study, HFC-134a gas removal from brackish water by JLR with additional air bubbling stone has been investigated with various parameters included initial concentration, liquid circulation rate and air flowrate. |
