제목 Study of the hydrogen evolution reaction on a ternary transition metal oxide/boride-carbon nitride electrocatalyst surface
초록 In this work, a ternary iron oxide/nickel boride/graphitic carbon nitride (Fe3O4/NixB/g-CN) composite material has been synthesized through co-deposition of metal phases on the g-CN sheets for electrocatalytic reduction of alkaline water. With this composite as an electrode material, the overpotential for HER was observed to be 130 mV overpotential (vs. RHE) at 10 mA cm-2 current density. The Tafel slope value of 99 mV dec-1 indicated that the adsorption step might determine the rate of the reaction. The multiple active sites and hetero-junction on this multi-component hetero-structured catalyst have been utilized to attain modest hydrogen binding strength and charge transfer as well as redistribution during interaction with the intermediates. Post-HER characterization studies indicated that the NixB and Fe3O4 planes took part in reaction whereas the g-CN provided higher active sites and stability. The chronoamperometric study over 60 hours showed an almost unaltered current density at 180 mV. The results indicate that the ternary composite is worthy of further commercialization.
